A behind-the-scenes look at all the phases building the Echo installation. Testing, Building, Experiencing.
The tests
Over several weeks, the team tested the piano's mechanics and its self-playing system, adjusted and calibrated the instrument's internals, wired the Spirio unit to the software, and had engineers code and fine-tune the musical logic at their workstations — while also trialing how light and projected text would interact with fabric surfaces for the visual design.
The construction
Across April and early May, the crew erected the physical stage: assembling truss rigging, scaffolding and curved set walls inside the venue, while in parallel the team ran live tests of the projected visuals — poetic multilingual text and water-like light patterns — directly onto the fabric and walls as construction progressed.
The installation
On May 7, the finished piece was unveiled: the Steinway & Sons grand piano staged at the center of the room, surrounded by projected text and light, with visitors invited to interact with the installation via a touchscreen station beside the instrument.
